Ratatan story explained

Ratatan.pro editorial team · Updated 2026-10-16

From Rataport to the Everafter

The official story introduction describes Rataport as an island as lively as a toy box in a tranquil sea. Its animal-like Ratatan inhabitants have different personalities but share one dream: travel to the Everafter and meet the Goddess believed to live there. Carrying everyone’s hopes, they keep trying despite repeated failures. This premise explains the journey and its repeated adventures without inventing an ending.

The same text can be checked in English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Japanese through the official story API, checked 16 October 2026. It does not tell a scene in which Crow finds an eye or explain an opening injury. Those details are not presented here as verified official quotations. For separately attributed eye lore, see Medama.

How version 1.0 completes the story

The official 14 October v1.1.9 notes add Episodes 3 and 4. Clearing Episode 2 unlocks Episode 3, then clearing Episode 3 unlocks Episode 4. From Episode 3 onward, progression conditions open World 6. Episode 4 contains the final boss; defeating it leads to the ending, after which you can retain your save and replay episodes.

The full release also completes the eight Dark Ratatan encounters and adds dialogue for Rataport NPCs and an orchestral ending song. This confirms the story now has a playable conclusion; it does not authorize inventing the final boss’s identity or interpreting unseen cutscenes. See Dark Ratatan, boss progression, and the glossary.

The 16 October notice confirms a Bonboya Gate melody-display bug can block Episode 3 even when the display looks complete. That is an acknowledged progression issue, not proof that later story episodes do not exist.
