What is Medama in Ratatan?

Medama (メダマ, commonly asked about in Chinese as 眼玉) is the eye given to Chorus to make them Cobuns, according to the Japanese community Cobun page, accessed 16 October 2026. It describes Chorus as fish-shaped creatures also called Ototo (音徒 / オトト), and says the transformed Cobun resembles its Ratatan leader. This is attributed community lore, not an independently verified item-drop rule.

The official character page confirms Cobuns are commanded with song and Melodium. The current official story introduction instead tells of Rataport’s inhabitants seeking the Goddess in the Everafter. It does not contain the earlier research notes’ sentence about Crow finding an eye and placing a soul in a Ratatan. This guide therefore does not reproduce that sentence as an official quotation.

The sources verified for this page do not establish a creator, manufacturing place, or a full origin narrative for Medama. The same applies to the search question about an opening injury: the story introduction does not explain it. An absence of a published explanation is not proof that the scene or interpretation is false.
